VIRTUAL SPACE HOSTS BULGARIAN SCHOOL
09:00 Thu 25 May 2006

Since one year a Bulgarian school functions online.

The website serves mainly the needs of Bulgarians living abroad. All Bulgarian expatriates can enroll their children in the virtual school, which offers lessons in Bulgarian language, literature and history, Darik Radio reported.

Valentin Nenkov, a Bulgarian living in Pittsburgh, came up with the idea. Nenkov tried to create a Bulgarian school in the US but failed because of the lack of teachers.

A Bulgarian software company and teachers in Bulgaria helped Nenkov carry out the virtual school project.

www.bulgarian-online-school.com started functioning on September 15 2005. Nenkov said 830 people have already registered to learn or just to support the project.

Thirty-five children study Bulgarian language using the website. Courses are divided in three levels. Students undergo entrance level exams, as well.

Highest interest came from Bulgarian families in the Netherlands, US, the UK and France, Nenkov said. Internet gives Bulgarians everywhere the chance to enroll their children in a Bulgarian school, Nenkov said.
